NEWS & UPDATES
The Lore of Assyria
Thank you for your interest in roleplaying on Reign & Ruin. We are a medieval fantasy, adult themed sim that is a mix of both slice of life and combat. Whether you are starting a new character or bringing an already existing character you are welcome. We do not judge individuals on their roleplay pasts but sadly should the need arise we will remove problem players. The sim does include over-arching storylines, but also feel free to bring your own. If you would like to include the sim as a whole just reach out to one of our staff and we will see if we can make it happen. Join our Discord and make yourself known; we enjoy meeting new people. Of course please look over our website in whole, it contains all you need to know about the sim including how to create your character new or existing. We look forward to meeting you in-world and we hope you enjoy Reign & Ruin as much as we enjoyed creating it.

PLAYER'S HANDBOOK
Greetings traveler and welcome to the Assyrian Travel Offices. I see you wish to travel to our lovely city and let me say it is quite the sight to behold. I apologize for the military presence but our sovereign takes no chances when it comes to the safety of our people.
So let us get started. What is your reason for traveling? Are you perhaps looking for a cure for something you were told was incurable? Seeking knowledge that is considered unattainable or forbidden in other lands? Are you just going on vacation or are you seeking to relocate and start life anew? Forgive me for asking all of these questions but it is all just part of the certification process.
And finally will you travel using our portal or upon one of the sand ships? Granted the ships are for the more adventurous types. The Sea of Khali, well that is what it is named, is known to be a bit dangerous even for the attuned ships that cross it. Now based on the answers you have given me today will be the basis and rules of your journey to Assyria.

RULES OF THE REALM
We're all adults here.
Let's act like it.
It shouldn't need to be said, but you are the curator of your own experience. You are expected to know your own limits and accept that everyone does not share the same, but just in case we have to spell it out, please continue reading.
DISCLAIMER: Administration reserves the right to add and/or modify rules as needed.
Linden Labs TOS supercede all. Don't do anything that will get us shut down or yourself banned from the grid. All players must be 18+ to access Reign & Ruin.
1. You are responsible for your own triggers. If you are not comfortable, stop the scene, fade to black. or in the worst case, mute the person. Moderators/Administrators will only interfere if it goes to the point of harassment.
2. Know the race you are playing, even if its a homebrew you made up yourself.
3. It is not our responsibility to make people play with you. Be an interesting character and a considerate play partner.
4. In the end, you are the star of your own story. Though we strive to provide sim wide events everyone can enjoy, we do not do this to provide the only avenue of roleplay for your character. Sim wide events are present to enhance and enrich the story of your character, not drive it.
5. Actions have consequences. Just because it faded to black does not mean it didn't happen. Don't expect to fuck around and NOT find out. Just because you have to experience consequences for your actions does not mean anyone is out to get you or has a vendetta against you.
6. IC Laws can be learned in-character. A general rule of thumb is to use common sense if you don't want to seek out this information in sim. However, always remember Rule #5.

CHARACTER CREATION
Who Will You Become?
Reign & Ruin is a mostly no-application freeform roleplaying setting; you are able to choose anything you want as long as it fits into a medieval fantasy setting.
While we do not require specific source materials, the majority of our story would be considered Dungeons & Dragons Homebrew and theming reflects as such. We use elements of all available source materials and generally, if you can show us where you found something, it will likely be acceptable in play.
Welcome to Assyria, Traveler!
You will receive an attuned bracelet that will give you the ability to stay in our fine city for the amount of time you specified to me. It cannot be removed once placed it on your wrist, but will disappear once your approved time is up or you become a citizen of Assyria. It is suggested if immigration is your final plan, you find your way to the palace and speak to the Kingdom Clerk to start the process of citizenship, but should you only be visiting, upon the expiration date if you have not left the city as you arrived you will immediately be transported right back here to this office. And please do not tamper with the attunement bracelet, the consequences of such are not for the faint of heart. Of course, do remember no matter how long your stay may be, you must adhere to all laws of the empire from the moment you step foot onto our soil. Your currency can be exchanged in our home office or within the bank near the palace. Happy travels!”
STEP 1: What's your race?
Reign & Ruin is a freeform story venue; that means you can be anything you like. We only ask is you keep it within the realm of Dungeons & Dragons standards.
STEP 2: What's your class?
Pick anything you like! Classic D&D classes are the standard, but anything is possible. Cross classing is possible, as well, however it's your responsibility to know what you are and are not capable of.
STEP 3: Why did you come to Assyria?
Are you from the city? Have you moved here to hide from your past? Have you come looking for fame and fortune, or has fate led you here against your will? Whatever your reason, it will need to be declared upon your arrival.
STEP 4: Are you a part of a guild or faction?
It's not required to choose a faction, guild or coterie to be a part of. You are perfectly able to start playing and enjoy your time without an affiliation, however if you would like to explore these options, check out the current factions.
STEP 5: All Done?
Congratulations! Your character is finished! We ask that you create a pick in your profile with some baseline information about your character including:
-
Name
-
Race
-
Class
-
Affiliation (if applicable)
-
Any additional info you may want to include.
Grab a HUD from the landing zone. You should have been prompted to join the experience when you landed, but if you missed it, click the sim banner to have the invitation re-sent.

FACTIONS, GUILDS & COTERIES
First and foremost, all groups in Reign & Ruin are fully optional. No player is required to join a group and groups are not guaranteed spaces on sim. They are only and fully, collections of players with a common goal and/or storyline.
A listing of the current Guilds and Factions in our story can be found to the right. If you want to know more detailed information about a group, please look for their heraldry in the landing zone. To join, find their HQ in-character.
How to Start a Coterie, Guild or Faction
If you would like create a coterie, there is no application process needed. Coteries are run similarly to families or households, and there is no administrative input or assistance.
If you would like to make a guild (job class) or faction (organization), you are expected to have:
-
At least 3 active players for a guild. At least 5 active members for a faction.
-
2 prepared plots that you will either be leading or actively moving forward.
-
A guild will be assigned a locale that best suits their purpose. A common location rented on sim to serve as a headquarters if a faction.
-
A basic write up of what your guild/faction is, what purpose it serves, and how to join.
-
Guilds must be open to anyone of that job class. Factions are permitted to be invitation only with reasoning given at time of application.
When you are ready to apply for a guild or faction, please submit the above information in the Discord server, in the #applications channel.

Greetings player and welcome to the wonderful world of combat on Reign & Ruin. Ah there is nothing like getting together with friends and whooping their ass, am I right? Or perhaps maybe someone offended you and you must restore your honor, or the honor of your loved one, or you just want to beat ass. Okay that last one may be interpreted wrong but you get my drift right? RIGHT! So lets go!
All players are given 5 hit points. Five. No more, no less. There are rare individuals on the sim that do have 6 hit points and you will know them if you come upon them.
Why only five? Well we wanted to make the combat fun and simple. We also don’t want you spending the precious hours you are on the sim beating on one person for over an hour because they have like a hundred and one hit points. It also gives you the opportunity to beat up all your friends in one day instead of just one. Another reason is due to our sim arena nights and the empire’s fighting championships.
As stated before we want to keep things fun and simple so we will be using the d20 system. Simple right? Of course it is!! So how does combat go? I am so glad you asked and we have put those simple steps below!
-
Roll that initiative. 1d20 and whoever rolls highest goes first.
-
Insult your opponent and type out that marvelous attack you have planned.
-
Roll that 1d20! Roll a fifteen or higher and you hit! Congratulations, your opponent loses one valuable hit point. (sad face)
-
Rinse and Repeat going back and forth until someone hits zero first.
-
Celebrate your victory or Whine about your defeat.
AND THERE YOU HAVE IT!! The Reign & Ruin combat system brought to you by White Claw. Why drink something fruity when you can drink something that is like static while someone in another room yells out the name of a fruit.
ENJOY BEATING UP YOUR FRIENDS!!!
